The Moment of Truth

The Moment of Truth

After watching the critically acclaimed — and extremely fun to watch with a bunch of Filipinos — ‘HBO 24/7′ earlier tonight, I was taken aback at how indifferent Manny Pacquiao was toward Freddie Roach. At the end of the first episode, Freddie was worried the training camp would be stalled by the typhoons and asked Manny to leave for Los Angeles as soon as possible. Manny seemingly ignored Freddie’s wishes the following day, forcing his long-time trainer to get L.A. on his ass and let him know who got him where he’s at in the first place.

My initial reaction, of course, was “WTF” followed by “Oh, shit, I’ve seen this in boxing before!” followed by “There goes Manny losing on November 14.”

Though I’m sure most of what I saw was a result of HBO’s editing, I think a lot of it has to have some warranted truth, perhaps giving viewers insight to the fact that Manny might just be a little over his head.

We were also introduced to some people we’ve never seen before in previous ‘24/7’s. For starters, we don’t remember seeing a hairdresser in Manny’s entourage before. And why is it that we’re barely seeing the much-maligned “advisor” Michael Koncz for the first time? He’s been in Manny’s camp for a while, and now we’re only seeing him?  Is it because he seems to be messing up the camp? I mean, c’mon, why would he think he deserves a spot in the corner?

At any rate, all of the above could just be HBO drumming up some much-needed drama for a fight that features two of boxing’s most self-effacing boxers. Let’s just hope for that, at least, and pray that Manny becomes the Manny we all know and love in upcoming episodes. When it comes down to it, the disparaging phrase “Manny being Manny” should only be attached to the Dodgers’ Manny Ramirez and not our beloved Manny Pacquiao.

Do you think the distractions in training camp will affect Manny Pacquiao in the fight?

Manny Pacquiao is distracted and will affect his performance in November.

Instead of KOing Cotto in 3 rounds, Manny will do it in 9 rounds because of the distractions. He still wins! The distractions only prolonged Cotto’s agony.

Did anybody understand what Roach is saying?

While Cotto is training hard, Pacquiao is having a nice time in politicking and press conferences and etc… This time he will fall…I predict that He will be out in the 10th Round.
