The Internal Revenue Service has caught up to Manny. But not in the Wesley Snipes type of way. If Manny holds his entire training camp on US soil for the Miguel Cotto fight, he’s forced to pay millions in taxes. It’s an IRS regulation called the Substantial Presence Test, where all his income, even outside the US, will be subjected to tax if he trains in the US.
Bob Arum suggests that Manny train outside the US for half of his training camp to avoid being jacked by “the man.” Read more about the tax situation in Nick Giongco’s article in the Manila Bulletin.
